Understanding the Tag System

At AG Martial Arts, students need three tags—Red (ethos), Blue (fitness), Green (syllabus)—to be eligible for grading    .

At-Home Tag Drills

  1. Ethos (Red Tag): Encourage routine by practising attendance and respectful behaviour. A simple routine checklist at home helps reinforce discipline.
  2. Fitness (Blue Tag): 5-minute burst drills like star jumps or punch-kick combos boost stamina. Great for building conditioning outside class.
  3. Syllabus (Green Tag): Go over belt syllabus techniques with a mirror or parent-led guidance—repetition builds skill retention.
  4. Stretch & Flex: After class or before bedtime, a 5-minute stretch routine improves flexibility—a key part of the fitness tag.
  5. Review Chat: Spend 5 minutes post-class reviewing new techniques—this reflection supports the syllabus understanding needed for the green tag.

Consistency Is Key

Small, regular practice helps children earn their tags faster and feel more prepared (and confident!) on grading day. Most importantly—make it fun and supportive.
