Tag System
Students are assessed on three areas: ethos, fitness, and syllabus. Classes prepare each student at their own pace, and instructors will advise when to book. On the day, assessments are supportive and age‑appropriate. Successful students receive their new belt and feedback to guide their next steps.
Red (Ethos) Tag – Consistent attendance, respectful behaviour, and black‑belt attitude.
Blue (Fitness) Tag – Meeting the fitness standard for their level.
Green (Syllabus) Tag – Demonstrating the required techniques and knowledge.
Students need all three tags to grade. You can book ahead; if all tags aren’t achieved by the grading date, your place is refunded.
Now it's time to level up! The final three belts before your 1st Dan black belt is graded via a thorough 3 hour session with individual feedback. These events only happen twice a year and is limited to 30 students a time.
This is only for students with a Red Stripe, Red, Black Stripe or Black belt.
For normal gradings sessions, yes. These are required. For advanced gradings (Red Stripe, Red, Black Stripe and Black), tags are optional but highly recommended.
We hold grading sessions every 4 months. If a student misses a grading date for whatever reason, you can visit a different location in the same grading season, or attend the annual catch up grading in Southampton.
Unfortunately not - we have a lot of parents with amazing intention for their kids. But we prefer students to be in a non-influenced environment so they can show off their true potential.
Students find out whether they've passed in their following class, and belts and certificates are given the week after. For advanced gradings, results are given via text 2 weeks after the grading date.
