Sparring
Sparring is a key part of a martial artist's development - it's where students begin to put their techniques into practice in a controlled, supervised environment. At AG Martial Arts, our sparring sessions are designed to be safe, structured and confidence-building for all skill levels.

Sparring isn't about fighting - it's about applying what you've learned in class in a dynamic setting. Students develop timing, distance, movement and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Our instructors carefully match partners by age, size and ability, and each round is overseen to ensure that the pace and contact level are appropriate. All sparring takes place using full protective gear to minimise risk and build confidence. Each student is responsible for purchasing their own equipment, which is a requirement before joining sparring sessions. Required equipment includes a head guard, mouthguard, sparring gloves, foot pads, a groin guard for males and an optional chest guard for females. Equipment must meet club standards and can be purchased through our recommended suppliers or via our online store. Sparring is introduced gradually and is only encouraged once students are ready. It helps refine techniques and teaches real-time decision-making, discipline and respect for others. Many students find sparring to be one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of their martial arts journey.
