Our Why
Humble Beginnings
Several of our AG Martial Arts directors know first-hand what it’s like to miss out on opportunities because of cost - many of us wouldn’t have been able to afford martial arts when we were younger. We recognise the incredible benefits martial arts can bring, from confidence and discipline to lifelong friendships, and we want to give back by removing that financial barrier for others.
Who it's for
The AGMA Fund is for individuals and families who want to train in martial arts but are unable to afford membership fees. It’s open to all ages and experience levels, ensuring that financial circumstances never stand in the way of joining our community.
What you get
Successful applicants receive a heavily subsidised six-month membership, giving them full access to AG Martial Arts classes, expert coaching, and the opportunity to progress through our belt system - all within a supportive, welcoming environment.
What the fund offers
Supporting students onto the mats
Access for those in need
Supports children and adults who face financial barriers to training.
Subsidised membership
Typically covers a heavily discounted 6-month training period (extensions considered case-by-case).
Impartial review
Decisions made by a small committee; places are limited and allocated based on need, not ability.
Positive commitment
Recipients are expected to attend regularly and uphold club values (respect, effort, teamwork).
Community-backed
Funded by AGMA, partners, and donations - every contribution helps another student onto the mats.
Simple application
Quick online form; evidence of circumstance may be requested to assess need fairly.
How it works
Applying is simple
Due to heavy demand for the AGMA Fund, only successful applicants will be contacted. If you have not heard from us within four weeks of the review date, your application has unfortunately been unsuccessful.
Applications are reviewed once every three months by our impartial panel to ensure fairness and consistency. We recommend applying as early as possible before the next review date to maximise your chances.
Criteria
The AGMA Fund prioritises students who face genuine financial or personal barriers to training. Awards are needs-based rather than merit-based.
- Household on a low income and/or receiving means-tested support (e.g., Universal Credit, Child Tax Credit)
- Formally recognised needs or additional support requirements (e.g., EHCP, SEND, medical/mental health letters)
- Referral from a school, youth worker, social/foster association, or community organisation
- Single-parent households or families facing extraordinary home situations (e.g., redundancy, bereavement, housing instability)
- Commitment to attendance and positive conduct (students should engage consistently to make full use of the place)
- Proximity to an AG Martial Arts venue and ability to attend scheduled sessions (to ensure practical access and impact)
